May Elections in Europe may be a Joke – The Invasion of Euroskeptics May Have NO Power
The backlash against these Marxist Politicians that have dominated Europe will see the first sizable gains when citizens in the 28 European Union countries vote on May 22-25 for 751 members of the bloc’s legislature. The opinion polls currently suggest that they will for the first time elect a sizable group of politicians bent on reversing 60 years of European integration. We should see an influx of perhaps 150 to 200 Euroskeptics (both hard left and right) that are intent upon stopping this march toward the federalization of Europe. This has been caused by the attitude of the politicians in Europe gathered in Brussels toward the rest of Europe and individuality. The local governments are becoming less and less important as the major decision process is coming from Brussels. This degree of arrogance has reached an all-time high.
The EU Commission has deliberately tried to undo the right of the people to vote under the self-aggrandizement that they know better than the people. The politicians have adopted the policy that is reflected by the famous statue in Brussels toward the rest of Europe. Brussels has been anything but a free democratic government for the people. This non-democratic position of the EU Commission retains is reflected in their assumed right to just ignore whatever the elected “representative” may vote for because they know better. The EU Commission is really an authoritarian organization and has done everything in its power to eliminate democratic principles out of the pretense that they know better what has to be done for the benefit of the people despite the fact they cannot see the future.
We reported that all the evidence demonstrates that the EU Commission covertly interfered with the Italian Elections to get rid of Berlusconi. When Greece wanted to go to the people to allow them to vote on the conditions demanded by the EU Commission, the EU Commission threatened Greece to prevent any public vote. They told Greece no deal if there would be elections. Their greatest fear has been that PEOPLE will reverse their goals of creating the United States of Europe. The EU suffers from a chronic “democratic deficit” that is being more widely inspected than ever before.
The European May Elections in 2014 for the EU in Brussels may prove to be a joke no matter what the people vote for. Of course, even if the people voted for reform and put in 100% Euroskeptics, the EU Commission has entered rules that even if the ELECTED politicians vote against the Commission, the Commission need NOT comply with ANY vote. Only the Commission can introduce legislation bot the people or their elected representatives. The European Commission was intended to federalize Europe from the start – they just pretended that was absurd. Nevertheless, the design was clearly set up to ensure that elected politicians would NEVER have any actual power.
Europeans have to dig deeper to comprehend that they are considered to be too stupid to understand what is best for them and their future even though unemployment among the youth is over 60% in the south. Newly elected politicians can refuse a proposal from the Commission, but the Commission canstill do as it likes and no vote can alter its agenda. This whole thing is one giant authoritarian government clothed in a pretend Democracy to force upon the people what the elites believe is good for them with ZERO checks and balances. This is the same agenda of the most ruthless dictators in history. Stalin killed tens of millions to protect government from people who could possibly think Communism would fail.
Amazingly, the EU Commission believes the people should have no voice because they do not know what is good for them. Look closely at this agenda. Even in Germany, Angela Merkel has rejected any more direct referendums whatsoever. She has no intention of allow the German people to ever express a negative vote. Brussels is usurping all power over local governments and more than 80% of all new laws now come from Brussels – not national legislatures. The members of the Eurozone are sovereign only in their debts – not their right to shape policy.
We will see the incoming EU lawmakers are set to embark from Day One on a new power struggle with the Union’s governments following much the same position as the American version of the Tea Party. The first test they will face is selecting the president of the European Commission. The EU’s executive body will for the first time be “chosen” under the provisions of the 2009 Lisbon Treaty. But can an elected president turn the direction of the EU Commission and its authoritarian approach?
The treaty states that the European Council of EU leaders nominates the candidate “taking account of the elections of the European Parliament and after having held the appropriate consultations”. This does not guarantee that the elected “representatives” of the people will actually have a direct say in this regard. Some believe that means national leaders should nominate the leading candidate of the group that wins the most seats. That pits Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg if the center-right wins or the German Martin Schulz if the Socialists are victorious.
The crisis in Democracy is how will they interpret these words. They are clearly ambiguous and were design that way since the intent from outset was to Federalize Europe that they swore was not the case. Therefore, it remains unclear whether the leaders will interpret the treaty in the same way and go along with parliament’s wishes or pick their own preferred candidate. It would seem that the fight may get dirty and the EU Commission would lose tremendous power if the elected representative pick their own candidates. This may set-off an internal war within Brussels between the EU assembly and national governments. The actual direction of Europe could hang in the balance. Will the authoritarian leaders let the people actually decide their own fate?
The EU Parliament has been the driving force of European integration or federalization. The European Commission has everything to lose if they allow a democratic legitimacy to take hold within the parliament after these many years of ignoring the people.
The battle for the presidency is just the beginning. There will be a rising trend of more battles between now and 2020 as parliament demands a bigger common EU budget of 135.5 billion euro ($187.5 billion) and a demand a say in the Eurozone’s supervision of national budgets. Let us not forget the bailout fund that was created upon authoritative command under a strictly intergovernmental structure without any democratic input.
The EU Commission has made all the decisions as if it were the European Sovereign over all of Europe. It has played a major role in shaping a the environment, health and safety, transport and energy and of course financial services and financial regulation that is contrary to real economics and a bailout of European banking union that followed the financial crisis.
Since 2009, in the eyes of many of its own members this has been moving toward a real parliament, yet contrary to the intentions of the EU Commission itself. The EU Parliament has had some power to ratify or reject international treaties signed by the EU. It has also gained a greater say over how the EU budget is spent and scrutiny over the black hole of the Common Agricultural Policy, which consumes amazing amounts of money that vanishes.
The EU Parliament rejected an agreement with the United States on exchanging personal data demanded by the NSA based upon their view it infringed all of their civil liberties. This is something not even the US Congress would adopt.
The EU Parliament has been viewed as a distant remote and anonymous body whose political agenda is unknown. Germany’s constitutional court, that seems to be truly free thinking and independent of politics, ruled that the Lisbon Treaty back in 2009 must be second to the German national parliament, which constitutionally retains ultimate power over the German budget. It stated that Germany must take a greater role in scrutinizing EU policies. Effectively, the German high court ruled that the European Parliament was a representative body for a sovereign European people, and that Germany as a member state should confer only limited powers on the EU Parliament, that must be subject to German national parliamentary scrutiny.
Currently, the European Union is not a federal state and the European Parliament has no actual taxing authority. This has been something that the secret agenda has sought to gradually change without democratic votes or the agreement of courts. The EU’s common budget is about 1 percent of gross domestic product, but it is passing most of the laws. To some members, there is a growing resentment of the EU Commission’s relentless quest to turn out more binding regulation and legislation that imposes greater financial burden upon the member states.
Then there is the French Agenda not to reform, but to force others to adopt French policy so France is not so uncompetitive. France is not convinced it is economically wrong, but has been a driving force to shut down the global economy to prevent freedom of movement of capital.
The serious clash between Brussels and local government is highly dangerous. While the EU Parliament has no tax-raising powers, it cannot overrule the EU Commission nor can it even amend their budget on a line by line basis. The EU Parliament cannot even initiate legislation and it has no say in foreign policy, as currently pressing with respect to Russia and Ukraine. This makes the EU Commission an unelected authoritarian form of government. So where is the benefit to member states or to the people of Europe under this design structure?
The EU budget is predominantly financed by national contributions, with only a small part coming directly from customs and excise. Even Germany and France oppose giving the EU Commission direct taxing powers. They have also refused to let the European Commission issue debt to fund agreed EU investment projects. The European Parliament has no power to even hold members of the Commission to account. At best, Parliament could only overturn the entire executive branch, which it did only once back in the initial stages of 1999. This structure curiously leaves the two most powerful entities completely composed of unelected ministers and without any accountability or checks and balance whatsoever. These are the European Council of national leaders and the Eurogroup of Finance Ministers.
There is nothing anyone can do with respect to the European Council, which just makes decisions without any consultation. There is simply no Democracy left in Europe. Consequently, there is a rising tension with greater demands for checks and balances. However, this is in direct opposition to those who think they know better than the herd of the great unwashed. Yet, many hope there will emerge a big change in EU politics in the years ahead as the of the pan-European political parties emerge. However, with the economy turning down very hard after 2015.75, there is a danger that the EU Commission will refuse to yield any power and betray the electorate, of course for their own good.
We are about to see if the EU Commission will tolerate allowing Parliament to take the power of nomination away from them. With the arrival of a large number of Euroskeptical MEPs, we are more-likely-than-not going to see some fights ahead. The introduction of a large number of Euroskeptics will mimic the introduction of a large bloc of Tea Party members hitting Congress and refusing to just do as the Republicans dictate. This is part of the trend of a rising Third Party Movement we are seeing on a global scale.
