RECORD WINDSTORM FOR THIS AREA KNOCKED OUT POWER ALL OVER THE REGION ON TUESDAY. IT BLEW SO HARD IT BENT MY TWENTY FOOT TV ANTENNA POLE ABOUT TEN DEGREES AND IT'S A RADIO SHACK SEGMENTED POLE MADE OF AT LEAST EIGHTH INCH STEEL TUBING.
MANY TREES DOWN, TWO PEOPLE KILLED BY FALLING TREES AND LOTS OF HOMES DAMAGED.
CREWS ARE WORKING TO RESTORE POWER CONCENTRATING ON THE MOST VITAL AREAS FIRST.
POWER HAS BEEN DOWN SINCE TUESDAY AND MAY TAKE ANOTHER TWO DAYS TO BE RESTORED IN THIS AREA.
TWO OF MY SMALL HARBOR FREIGHT GENERATORS HAVE BEEN GIVING ME A LOT OF TROUBLE STARTING. THE NEW ONE JUST QUIT AND WON'T START.
MY LARGE 5000 WATT ONAN RV GENERATOR WILL RUN BUT USES ABOUT A GALLON OF GAS PER HOUR.
RATHER THAN RUN THE GENERATORS FULL TIME, I USE THEM TO CHARGE UP MY BANK OF TEN LARGE RV BATTERIES AND THEN RUN MY ELECTRICAL ITEMS OFF MY BATTERIES THROUGH MY INVERTER. PROBLEM IS, IN THIS COLD THE BATTERIES ARE STRAINING TO KEEP THEIR CHARGE HIGH ENOUGH TO NOT TRIGGER MY INVERTER TO SHUT DOWN DUE TO LOW VOLTAGE.
I'M ONLY USING MY TV AND COMPUTER, ONE AT A TIME SO AS TO NOT OVERTAX THE BATTERIES.
I RECOMMEND ONLY BUYING HIGH QUALITY GENERATORS THAT HAVE ELECTRIC STARTS AND RUN ON BOTH GAS AND PROPANE.
USE PROPANE AS IT WON'T GUM UP YOUR GENERATOR'S CARBURETOR. IT WILL STORE A LONG TIME BUT HAS LOWER BTUs THAN GAS WHICH DOESN'T STORE WELL AND WILL GUM UP YOUR GENERATOR IF ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS ETHANOL IN IT.
I WILL POST OCCASIONALLY AS MY POWER ALLOWS ME TO.
LOOKS LIKE IT'S ONLY GOING TO GET COLDER HERE BY THANKSGIVING AS AN ARCTIC BLAST IS MOVING INTO THE AREA.
NINETEEN DEGREES THIS MORNING AND OVERNIGHT. EXPECTED TO MOVE DOWN IN TO THE LOW TEENS BY TURKEY DAY AND SNOW POSSIBLE THIS NEXT TUESDAY.
THE FOLLOWING WEEK TEMPS WILL DROP INTO THE FREEZING AREA AND STAY IN THE THIRTIES FOR MOST OF THE WINTER DURING THE DAY WITH TWENTIES OR LOWER AT NIGHT.
