The government seizes more assets from Americans every year than the
dollar amount taken in burglaries. Americans collectively pay more in
taxes than they spend on food, clothing, and housing combined. Thanks to
the war on drugs, Americans can be locked in a cage for purchasing too
much Sudafed to relieve their stuffy nose or possessing too much of a
plant the government doesn’t approve of. The United States has one of
the highest per capita prison populations in the world. Tens of
thousands of Americans are incarcerated for nonviolent or victimless
crimes.
