In yet another racially charged shooting in the Sunshine State, a man reportedly shot his neighbor point-blank in the face last July and then went back to cooking his dinner.
Not only did 59-year-old Walton Henry Butler shoot 32-year-old Everett Gant but he called 911 to report it. He also became aggravated when they arrested him because as he told them, he only shot a “nigger.”
Gulf County Sheriff Joe Nugent Police said the suspect acted as if shooting the victim was “no big deal” and they were inconveniencing him with the arrest and interrogation.
I guess he thought shooting a black man was par for the course and ranked down there with hunting pheasants.
According to reports, Gant had gone over to Butler’s residence at Pine Ridge Apartments off Garrison Avenue in Port St. Joe to talk to him about racial slurs he was hurling at black children in the apartment complex.
Butler’s response was to open his door armed with a 22 caliber rifle, point it at Gant’s face and pull the trigger, then calmly return to preparing his dinner. He then proceeded to sti down and eat that dinner as Gant lay bleeding outside his door.
Miraculously, the victim survived but was critically injured.
