New Fed Chairman – a Woman

yellen Janet
Ben Bernanke will leave office most likely in January when we have more Panic Cycles and that has been shaping up as a turning point. Bernanke is not dumb. He can see the problem with keeping rates so low and realizes they will rise on their own anyhow. The monetary easing is coming to an end and if anything the Fed will be selling US Treasuries. It makes sense for him to jump ship before the tide turns and he gets the blame. My bet – Janet Yellen will be the next Chairperson.

Gold Standard

QUESTION: If money was gold we would not have inflation. Why do you disagree with that? Do you like inflation?
ANSWER: Sorry. Even when gold was money in coin form there was inflation. The economy rises and falls. That is the Business Cycle. Those who advocate the Gold Standard have never invested what they claim. We were on a gold standard between 1945 and 1971 and it did not prevent inflation nor did it last.
You must investigate the past with an open mind. Let what happened unfold without trying to support a redetermined assumption. Westerners favored the new Bank of the United States before the Panic of 1819, which created open opposition to the institution. The Second Bank of the United States stopped allowing payment of debts in paper and instead demanded payment in specie—metallic gold and silver coins—which were in short supply after the War of 1812 due to a large trade deficit with Britain. The hardest hit sector was Western farmers who could not pay their loans to the Bank because they could not obtain the specie that was demanded. The Second Bank of the United States then forced western branches to foreclose on farms with outstanding loans. Westerners began to call for reform and the end of the Bank of the United States.
Can you imagine you have a 30 year mortgage bought with paper dollars, and then we adopt a gold standard. You do not have enough gold to repay the loan so they come take everything you have. Think twice before buying into that story. There is no way to make such a transition.

Marshal at Supreme Court Outlaws Protests Himself

The Marshal at the Supreme Court issued new anti-demonstration regulation after law declared unconstitutional by a lower court. This new regulation banning demonstrations on its grounds, came just two days after a broader anti-demonstration law was declared unconstitutional.
This new regulation bans activities on the court’s grounds or building such as picketing, speech-making, marching, vigils or religious services “that involve the communication or expression of views or grievances, engaged in by one or more persons, the conduct of which is reasonably likely to draw a crowd or onlookers.”
The regulation declares that “casual use by visitors or tourists”that isn’t likely to attract a crowd is not banned. That seems to address a way of dealing with the concern posed by a federal judge who threw out the law barring processions and expressive banners on the court’s grounds.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell said that law was so broad it could criminalize preschool students parading on their first field trip to the high court. She also noted that the marshal of the Supreme Court “has the authority to prescribe necessary regulations to govern the plaza,” which is precisely what the he did on Thursday. This demonstrates above all that he who prosecutes the rules cannot be also the person makes the rules and the imposes judgment. That is the legislature, judge, prosecutor, and jury all vested in a single person. This is un-Democratic and is precisely what the people in Syria are so pissed off at. Hello Washington? Anybody awake?
